Android and the Open Handset Alliance have received the Emerging Technologies Award for Wireless Week's 11th Annual Excellence Awards Program. The award was announced in the April 1st issue of Wireless Week and was presented at CTIA Wireless 2008 in Las Vegas.
The awards program is designed to recognize exemplary achievement in wireless and is based on nominations submitted by Wireless Week editors and writers. According to the publication: "Android's potential promises openness and innovation, perhaps changing not only the mobile Internet but the Internet itself."

In a show of broad momentum behind Android, members of the Open Handset Alliance and several other companies will be showing early look implementations of the platform on various reference hardware in Barcelona. These firms ported the same software onto different hardware with little to no modifications of the core stack, highlighting the strong early interest that Android has generated and the portability of its design.
